The desire for whiter teeth is the foremost aesthetic concern for many patients. Various methods are available to achieve a brighter smile – and now you can even perform professional-grade teeth whitening at home. Teeth whitening addresses various dental concerns, including:
- Fluorosis: This causes white or brown speckles on the teeth.
- Normal Wear: The outer tooth layer may wear over time, leading to a dull appearance.
- Stained Teeth: Discoloration can be caused by medications such as tetracycline or habits like smoking and consuming staining beverages like coffee, tea, or wine.
Typically, teeth whitening in Baltimore & Columbia involves two visits to our offices. During the first appointment, we create custom, clear plastic trays based on molds of your teeth. These trays are tailored to fit your teeth precisely. At the second visit, you'll try on the trays for fit, and adjustments will be made if necessary.
The trays are then worn with a special whitening solution, either twice a day for 30 minutes or overnight for a couple of weeks, depending on the extent of staining and the desired level of whitening. It's common to experience tooth sensitivity during this period, but it usually subsides shortly after you stop bleaching. We also offer professional-grade trays that self-adapt to the patient's dentition in a strip form, which can be delivered the same day to the patient.
